Ex-African Captain Claims His Ballon D'Or Votes Were Once Changed

Ex-African Captain Claims His Ballon D'Or Votes Were Once Changed

A former African international, who captained his country, has claimed that his Ballon d'Or votes were once changed after being made public.

Real Madrid Star Under Fire For Voting For Messi As FIFA's Best

In a recent interview, ex-Equatorial Guinea captain Juvenal Edjogo claimed that his picks for the 2013 Ballon d'Or award were changed.

Speaking to Spanish sports network Gol Play, the now-retired 27-time international, who was born in Spain, stated that he gave his votes to Didier Drogba and Andres Iniesta, but later saw that Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo were listed under his name.

"These awards have no value," he said during the interview.

"What little I can say about this type of award is that in 2013, I voted for my three players for the Ballon d'Or, and I sent my votes, and in the end when it was made public, the list of who voted for who, my votes were different.

"It said I voted for Messi, Cristiano, and I don't know who else, but I didn't vote for any of them. That's why I say, I don't believe in absolutely anything about those awards."

In 2013, the Ballon d'Or prize was handed out by FIFA until the organisers of the award, France Football, split from football's governing body in 2016.
