Rashford’s Influence Reaches DStv Premiership

Rashford’s Influence Reaches DStv Premiership

The Marcus Rashford celebration has been emulated by Cape Town City's Taahir Goedeman.

Manchester United goal machine Marcus Rashford has lit the football world up on fire with his new celebration, and it's finally made its way to the DStv Premiership!

Check it out...

What's the story?

Taahir Goedeman scored an absolute screamer in Cape Town City's 2-0 win over Swallows FC and he emulated Marcus Rashford's recent muted celebration.

The celebration has been making waves in Europe, with a host of ballers holding their index finger to their temple after getting the back into the back of the net.

Let's take a closer look at Goedeman's version and what the celebration means for Rashford.

Goedeman does Rashford celebration

It's debatable whether or not Rashford is the originator of this muted celebration but whenever a player places their index finger on their temple, only one player comes to mind.

As mentioned, Goedeman scored a long-distance screamer over the weekend for the Citizens, his first league goal for the club, and embraced his teammates after doing the Rashford celebration... with a number of them doing the same thing.

The celebration suggests that Rashford is noting his recent mental health struggles and how focusing on that has become a priority.

Last year, Rashford revealed that he had been struggling with mental health last season:

"I was struggling at times with more mental things. It wasn't really my own performance but other things off the pitch. That's the biggest difference from last season," said the United forward to Sky Sports News.

"Too often last season, I wasn't in the right headspace for games. I wasn't surprised by some of the stuff that was happening," he added.

The celebration has been done by a number of goal scorers in 2023, from Arsenal's Bukayo Saka to Ajax Amsterdam's Kenneth Taylor and even Manchester City's Erling Haaland.

Since working with South African legend Benni McCarthy, Marcus Rashford has been a goal machine for the Red Devils this season, scoring 14 in 24 matches in the English Premier League so far.
