With Chelsea's transfer window spend already at £160 million (R3.3 billion), reports suggest that the Blues are prepared to spend big once again as they prepare a new bid for a £105 million (R2.2 billion)-rated 2022 FIFA World Cup star.
Manager Reacts To Ronaldo's Al Nassr Debut
With just over a week left until the end of the transfer window, it seems the west Londoners have not yet given up their pursuit of Argentina international Enzo Fernandez.
Ever since he helped La Albiceleste capture their third FIFA World Cup crown in December, the Premier League giants have been persistent in courting the 22-year-old.
Chelsea's bids so far have been rebuffed by Benfica, though – first, the two-time European champions offered a deal worth £112 million (R2.3 billion); after that, a £79 million (R1.6 billion) bid that included Hakim Ziyech and two other players who would go out on loan to the Portuguese giants.
Both bids were ultimately rejected as Benfica insisted that the only way Fernandez would leave the Estadio da Luz was if his £105 million release clause was met with an up-front payment.
The former River Plate starlet is understood to have already agreed terms with the English outfit, and could well make his way to Stamford Bridge before the close of the transfer window as Chelsea are now preparing another bid to secure his services, according to Record.
The Premier League side has already made six signings this month, with Mykhaylo Mudryk, Joao Felix, Nonie Madueke, Andrey Santos, Benoit Badiashile and David Datro Fofana all making their way to Stamford Bridge since the turn of the year.
