Messi's World Cup Request Leaves PSG In Awkward Position

Messi's World Cup Request Leaves PSG In Awkward Position

Lionel Messi

Having just won the biggest prize in football, the FIFA World Cup, Lionel Messi is said to want showcase the trophy to the Paris Saint-Germain support, but reports suggest that the club's hierarchy is hesitant to fulfil his request.

Report: Bale Makes Big Decision On Career

According to Goal, the PSG top brass is worried that fulfilling the 35-year-old's request will spark ugly scenes at the Parc des Princes.

Last weekend, Messi added the World Cup to what is already an iconic career trophy haul as his two goals helped Argentina become world champions for the third time in the nation's history.

Unfortunately for the diminutive superstar, it came at the expense of France, the nation in which the Rosario native plays his club football.

It has become something of a tradition for players to present personal accolades ahead of their first game back after winning them, but given the country he beat in order to win the illustrious trophy, it seems chiefs at the home of the record Ligue 1 champions are sceptical about having the forward showcase the prize in Paris.

It is believed the PSG faithful might find it hard to digest seeing their Argentine superstar parade a trophy their nation came so close to retaining. The provocations that ensued after the final from some members of La Albiceleste toward Kylian Mbappe may also cause an overflow of emotion.

Les Parisiens' first home game back after the World Cup will be against Strasbourg in the league, and while the temptation may be there to celebrate a man who is now being lauded by many as the greatest ever to grace a football pitch, the circumstances surrounding this potential pre-game ceremony seem to be very fragile.

Official: Former Chelsea Boss Takes Charge Of African Giants

Messi's co-stars Mbappe and Neymar have already returned to training in the French capital, while the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner has been given extra free time to celebrate his country's World Cup triumph, with no indication yet as to when he will return to Paris.
