Transfer Update: Messi

Transfer Update: Messi

Spanish giants Barcelona are reportedly aiming to reunite with 2022 FIFA World Cup winner Lionel Messi in 2023, with his contract at Paris Saint-Germain set to expire at the end of this season.

Messi Sends Emotional Message After World Cup Triumph

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Catalan club are "dreaming" of bringing the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner back to Spain for the 2023/24 campaign.

Messi parted ways with the LaLiga giants in 2021 as a free agent after president Joan Laporta decided against offering him a new deal due to the club's well-documented financial issues.

PSG chief Nasser Al-Khelaifi has publicly declared his wish for the Argentine to continue in the French capital, with it thought that the 35-year-old delayed contract extension talks to be able to fully concentrate on the World Cup.

Now a world champion, the ex-Barca No. 10 is likely to be preparing to consider his future in the coming weeks as the end of his contract in Paris approaches.

It appears unknown as to where Messi wants to play his football next season, although Al-Khelaifi has stated he is under the impression that the World Cup Golden Ball winner is happy in Ligue 1.

Laporta, however, has previously suggested that the door for a return to Barcelona is always open to the Argentina captain, a sentiment Blaugrana head coach Xavi Hernandez has echoed in public remarks about his former teammate.
