Messi Sends Emotional Message After World Cup Triumph

Argentina captain Lionel Messi has issued an emotional message after beating France in the 2022 FIFA World Cup final.

Messi Makes Decision On Argentina Future After Winning World Cup

On Sunday, the 35-year-old celebrated with his teammates as they claimed the World Cup trophy following a penalty shootout victory over the 2018 world champions.

Messi, who claimed the Golden Ball for his performances in Qatar, became the first player in the history of the competition to contribute to 20+ goals, while he is now also the record appearance-maker (26) at the World Cup.

In a post on social media after the encounter at the Lusail Stadium, the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner issued a message of thanks to his loved ones and fans around the world, and said his compatriots deserve the plaudits for their efforts.

"World Cup champions! I dreamt it many times, I wanted it very much. I still can't believe it," he wrote on Instagram.

"Thanks to my family, to all those who supported me, and to all those who believed in us. We proved once again that when we fight together we are capable of achieving big things.

"The credit for this championship goes to this group, which is above individual interests. It is the strength of fighting for the same dream... We did it!"

Mbappe Matches 56-Year-Old World Cup Final Record

Messi scored seven goals in Qatar, finishing just one strike behind his Paris Saint-Germain colleague Kylian Mbappe in the tournament's top scorer ranking.
