Gordinho Explains Why There Was No Chiefs Reunion

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Lorenzo Gordinho has explained why he did not return to the club after his spell in Denmark.

Gordinho was given a breakthrough in the professional ranks by Chiefs after he was promoted from the academy in 2013.

The 28-year old spent five years with the senior team and his struggles for game-time under former Amakhosi coach Steve Komphela saw him being loaned out to the now defunct Bloemfontein Celtic in January 2018.

After spending a year at Siwelele, Gordinho was eventually signed permanently by Bidvest Wits in January 2020, who also don't exist anymore in that name, bringing to an end almost ten years in association with Chiefs since joining the Naturena-based side as a 15-year old.

After the Clever Boys sold their Premiership status to Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM), the Benoni-born defender joined Danish Superligaen side Viborg in September of the same year.

However, after a two-year period in Denmark, that included a short stint at second-tier outfit HB Koge, Gordinho, as reported by the Siya crew that he had returned to the country and was training with Cape Town City, was eventually officially announced on a three-year contract recently.

In an interview on Metro FM Sports, the 28-year old was asked whether he considered a return to his former side Chiefs after leaving Koge.

Gordinho suggested that the Glamour Boys did not show interest and the Citizens were the ones who presented him with a contractual proposal.

"I think it's more of where you're wanted, where you're wanted to come in and to bring what you have to the table," the former Amakhosi defender said.

"It's not so much as you choosing, I mean if everybody could choose clubs I don't think there would be enough teams in the PSL you know.

"So it's about where you're wanted to come and bring what you have to the table. Honestly, everyone has been like, 'Ah, maybe...', everyone always has an opinion that, maybe you should have done this," he explained.

"But the fact is that I was contacted by Cape Town City and I was happy with the proposal and with the project and that's why I made my decision," he added.
