Reason Behind Chiefs U-Turn In Blom Negotiations Uncovered?

Njabulo Blom

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Njabulo Blom has remained in demand, as Orlando Pirates is the latest club to show interest in his services.

Soccer Laduma exclusively revealed recently that SuperSport United were watching the Blom contract situation at Chiefs with keen interest after entering into exploratory talks with the 22-year old's camp.

The Siya crew has been on top of the story since breaking the news of the impasse between Blom and Amakhosi over the renewal of a new contract.

Mamelodi Sundowns have emerged as favourites to land Blom should he not renew his stay at the Naturena-based side.

However, as revealed in edition 1302 of the publication, available at your nearest outlet, Pirates have also shown interest in the Bafana Bafana midfielder.

The Buccaneers would have the upper hand should the Amakhosi development product have apprehensions about his playing chances at Sundowns.

Chiefs crosstown rivals have shown real appetite for big signings after pulling off two big Deadline Day deals in bringing on board Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo and Kermit Erasmus.

The Siya crew exclusively reported in the latest edition of the newspaper that Amakhosi and Blom have reached an agreement over a new deal in principle.

However, the reality of the situation is that until the deal becomes official and is announced by Amakhosi, anything can still happen.

The 22-year old's contract is set to expire at the end of the season and legally, his suitors will be within their rights to make him offers that can be sealed in a pre-contract agreement when the January transfer window opens in a few weeks.

The Siya crew understands that Chiefs had actually resigned themselves to losing Blom after they were met with the same resistance in their meetings with the player's parents, as that of his representatives.

But the Amakhosi management came back to the negotiations table with an improved offer, which Siya sources have indicated that it's a multi-million rand three-year deal, with option to extend.

Pirates' latest interest in Blom could have made Amakhosi to reconsider their stance because losing their academy graduate, currently on the rise in his career, to their fierce rivals could severely hurt the brand.

Blom is a fan favourite and Chiefs could alienate their huge support base should they lose him to the Sea Robbers.

The Glamour Boys cannot afford to anger their support base, especially given the sensitive issue of not winning a trophy in seven years and accusations of not signing enough quality players over the last number of years.
