Zungu Impressed With Progress Of Downs Teammate

Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Bongani Zungu has commented on the growth of teammate Sphelele Mkhulise, as he spoke of the depth in the team.

When Zungu left Sundowns for Portugal in 2016, Mkhulise was 20 and had not yet broken into the first team at Chloorkop. Over the last few years, however, the 26-year-old Mkhulise has been given opportunities in the first team, after spells on loan to Richards Bay and Black Leopards, and has shown glimpses of brilliance.

Zungu has been impressed with the progress made by the midfielder, who was on target in the Carling Black Label Cup final against Soweto giants Orlando Pirates over the weekend.

Zungu also got an opportunity to play in the one-day competition, in the first semi-final against AmaZulu.

"We played in the morning and that was hard, but I told myself that I should enjoy. We played well and dominated the game and we won. Just to speak on the tournament, I feel we showed depth in our team. For me, seeing guys like Mkhulise...when I left here he was so young and seeing how he has grown as a player is unbelievable. We have depth and I always tell them in the dressing room that we can go as far as winning the Champions League if we focus and work hard together," Zungu said during a Carling Black Label World Cup Score Predictor event in Sandton on Thursday afternoon.
