Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena has given his players credit for accepting the change in leadership, after winning the Carling Black Label Cup over the weekend.

Sundowns were ruthless in the one day tournament played at FNB Stadium on Saturday, scoring seven goals in the two matches to become the first team outside of Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs to win the tournament, which had four teams participating for the first time in its history. The DStv Premiership champions beat AmaZulu 3-0 in the first semi-final and then hammered Pirates 4-0 in the final to end the day on a high.

Since taking over as head coach, Mokwena is yet to lose or draw a game. Sundowns have scored 15 goals in four matches, including the two over the weekend, and have not conceded a goal.

Things could have gone down south after the club confirmed changes to the technical team a few weeks ago, but it appears it has not affected the team at all. In fact, Sundowns have looked a lot better and are more lethal upfront, even without the services of Peter Shalulile, who has been working his way back from injury.

"I always say to you that the game belongs to the players. We have very little control what happens over 90 minutes. We can change things and influence with subs and sometimes influence with mentality, but huge plaudits has to go to the Sundowns players for accepting, first, the change in leadership because that takes a lot of humility and emotional acceptance. But also accepting to play with a little bit more personality and that's what we did and that's what we've continued to do and congratulations to the players," Mokwena told media after the final at FNB Stadium.
