Broos: More Work To Do On One Of A Kind Pirates Star

Broos: More Work To Do On One Of A Kind Pirates Star

Having recently made his Orlando Pirates debut, Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has explained why Evidence Makgopa is in a class of his own when it comes to strikers in the country.

The 22-year-old has earned himself a reputation for being one of the PSL's leading marksmen, showing his prowess for both club and country.

His exploits for the now-relegated Baroka FC earned him a move to Pirates at the start of the season although injury has hampered his progress with the Buccaneers so far.

He has missed out on the latest Bafana squad for friendly matches against Mozambique and Angola respectively, but, the Belgian coach says Makgopa's unique profile will see him return to the Bafana Bafana squad.

"If Makgopa is playing he will be with us. He was always with us before yes, always. And then he played in a team that was struggling to stay in the first division and then they didn't succeed and now with the injury he didn't play for four months, so lets hope he will get back to the team," Broos told journalists at this squad announcement.

Asked what makes the Limpopo-born star so different, Broos was quick to point out Makgopa's potential given his sturdy frame.

"He is a tall player, he is good with the head. He is technically not so good but can improve a lot and that's something I have to work on, but I can do it. As a Bafana coach, I don't have the time to do it, but I hope they can do it at the club.

"Working with the positioning in front of the goal, protecting the ball, asking the ball and all those things because he has the potential. He has a good profile but there is still a lot of work to do," Broos said.

For the camp, Broos has selected Khanyisa Mayo, Lyle Foster (injured) and Zakhele Lepasa as his striking options.
