So it is no surprise that Alves has come up against some of the best wide players over the last decade, but a long-running battle with a Real Madrid star was his toughest.

Whe asked who was his toughest opponent, Alves told Marca, "Cristiano Ronaldo.

"This b*****d doesn't let you breathe for a second. I didn't do too badly, but it's difficult. He's a scoring machine."

The 38-year-old has also revealed he has not thought about retiring from professional football just yet.

"I don't like to think about the future because it's always unknown. I let life take me. If Messi passes me (in titles) I'm going to play until I'm 50," he added.
