Official: Former Bafana Bafana Coach Lands New Gig

Mere months after departing his previous job, a former Bafana Bafana coach has now been appointed as Iran's new head coach.

'Ahly Players Told Me Pitso Is A Mediocre Coach'

Carlos Queiroz has official been announced as the new head coach of Iran four months after leaving his post as the head coach of the Egyptian national team, as confirmed by the team's media officer on Wednesday afternoon.

The Mozambican-born coach thus returns to the Iranian national team for a second stint.

After the Pharaohs lost out on 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification to African champions Senegal in March, Queiroz decided to step down as their head coach, a move that came soon after Egypt's 2022 Africa Cup of Nations final loss to the same opponents.

Now, the 69-year-old will return to the national team with whom he previously had his longest managerial stint (between 2011 and 2019) in Iran.

He will lead the Arab nation to their third consecutive FIFA World Cup, having been at the helm of the team for the previous two editions of the global showpiece as well.
