The 23-year-old is believed to have the potential to contribute to the progress of Tuks next season.
The Rustenburg-born player has been competing for a position with the experienced strikers in the team, including Geofrey Massa and Atusaye Nyondo.
With Massa on his way out of the club to join Bloemfontein Celtic, the Tshwane outfit have given Mathosi an extended period in the side to try and impress the technical team.
The player's agent, Kabelo Sibiya, confirmed to the Siya crew that the player is on a new deal at the club.
"University of Pretoria have exercised their one-year option on Lucky Mathosi's contract. He is staying with the club for next season.
"We would like to thank the club for showing faith in the boy. He is still young and learning from the club's international and experienced strikers. We really appreciate what they have done," said Sibiya.
