The organisers of the Thabo and Thando Mngomeni Annual Games have confirmed that preparations are underway for this year's football showpiece.

The Mngomeni brothers, who are legends of South African football, will have their football tournament hosted in Matatiele in the Eastern Cape. 

The tournament, which is scheduled to take place from 14 June to 17 June, is aimed at giving aspiring young footballers the opportunity to recognise their football dreams. 

The organisers of the tournament have issued a statement confirming the details of this year's event.

With an eye on showcasing talent in Matatiele, Eastern Cape, Afrisports Media is excited to announce the annual Thabo, Thando Mngomeni Annual Games 2018

Matatiele in the Eastern Cape will bear witness to the best kasi football skills on display. This area has fond memories for Thabo Mngomeni while playing for Umtata Bucks, would have fans from Matatiele and its surrounding areas come to watch him play, also, the opportunity to play against teams from Matatiele in friendly matches.

The brothers have played at the highest level in the professional set-up playing for teams like Cape Town Spurs, Umtata Bucks, Orlando Pirates, Santos, SuperSport United and Mamelodi Sundowns. The tournament is aimed at giving hopeful youngsters the opportunity to recognize their football dreams.

Scheduled for 14th - 17th June 2018, this year's tournament will see 32 teams take to the field in their quest to be named the inaugural Thabo-Thando Mngomeni Annual Games Matatiele 2018 champions.

The teams will be drawn against each other and play two-legged matches to see who will progress to the next round until two teams reach the final where it will be played on the 17th June 2018.

As confirmed by the organisers, the aim will be to have seven youngsters selected from the tournament after the games, with a view of sending them to a 'high-level intensity football camp in Johannesburg'.
