Son Of Former Orlando Pirates Midfielder Andile Cele Signs Professional Contract

The 16-year-old son of a former Orlando Pirates star has emerged and on course to put the name of his family back on the map in South African football, the Siya crew has learnt.

The wonderkid is the son of Andile 'Sguda' Cele, the attacking skilful midfielder who played for Pirates in the early 2000s.

While many in the fraternity felt hard done and robbed of special talent after Cele – a great passer of the ball and a crowd favourite for his silky skills – was forced into early retirement at only age 29 due to injury.

His son could be set to revive those memories as he makes notable progress in his career, as confirmed by his mentor and former coach, Siphesihle Ngobese.

Ngobese is one of the youth coaches at Maritzburg City, where the young Cele has been developed, and the mentor confirms to the Siya crew that the starlet has been signed by Maritzburg United after impressing the club's head coach Ernst Middendorp.

"Kamvalethu Cele is a talented youngster whom we have developed and is the son of Andile Cele. He has signed his first professional contract with Maritzburg United and he is only 16 years old. Mark my words, this boy will not only be one of the best players in South Africa, but he will be recognised even beyond our borders in the next 10 years. I have been working with the boy since he was 10 years old and in each of those years, he has never played with players from his age group. He was always playing in the divisions of players older than him, and that's how good he is. His father, Sguda, was a good player but this boy is something else and is more like Themba Zwane in how he plays. Maritzburg United coach, Ernst Middendorp, assessed the boy for three weeks and then signed him," confirmed Ngobese.

"Mabhuti (Khenyeza) wanted to sign for TS Galaxy when he was the head coach there, and imagine the boy was 14 years old and obviously he is still in school, but Mabhuti wanted to bring the boy closer to him at that age already. Now, it depends on how brave Middendorp is regarding when he will decide to give the boy a run in the team. It's up to him, and I think he will introduce him gradually at some point, or maybe he will say the boy will be ready next season. I just wish they can play him in his right position as a number 10, although he can also play as a winger or a false number nine," concluded Ngobese.
