Mpumalanga Black Aces have decided to take up the one-year extension on Onyekachi Okonkwo's contract, with the Nigerian midfielder now set to stay on at AmaZayoni.
The 32-year-old midfielder joined AmaZayoni from Orlando Pirates at the beginning of the season, and made 17 starts and six substitute appearances for Clive Barker's team.
Okonkwo was sometimes used as an out-and-out striker, or on occasion just behind the strikers, by Barker and contributed with one goal last season.
There was talk that he could leave Aces after the expiry of his contract in June, but it seems as though he did enough to convince Aces to give him another contract.
Speaking to the crew from his home in Nigeria, Okonkwo confirmed to the Siya crew that he was staying with AmaZayoni.
"I still have one year with Aces, so I will be joining the team for the pre-season on June 23," said Okonkwo.
Aces Media Liaison Officer, Gordon Masondo, also confirmed that Okonkwo will play for Aces next season.
"Yes, it's true that Okonkwo has one more year with us, so he is definitely staying," concluded Masondo.
