Chiefs' Position Proves The Problem Was Neither Zwane Nor Johnson?

Chiefs' Position Proves The Problem Was Neither Zwane Nor Johnson?

Former Chiefs striker Katlego "Killer" Mphela believes the pattern of underwhelming and inconsistent results indicates that the issue extends beyond the coaching staff.

In an exclusive interview with Soccer Laduma, Mphela emphasized the need for Chiefs to reevaluate their recruitment strategy rather than holding coaches solely accountable for poor results.

"I would like to think that the problem was not with the previous coaches because coaches cannot take all the blame. The whole institution needs to look at themselves and try to find a solution. They brought on a new technical team and players but they are still experiencing the same problems. So, it's clear it's not the coach's fault alone," Mphela told Soccer Laduma.

The Bafana Bafana legend further suggested that the Amakhosi team should revive their winning mentality for which Chiefs are renowned and allow the coach sufficient time to work with the players.

"(They must) recruit new players that fit Chiefs' profile, and also reinstil the winning mentality and give the coach time to start winning. If they can work on all these factors I think they would go back to winning ways and I believe management knows that by now," Mphela told the Siya crew.

Last season, Amakhosi ended in a disappointing 10th position, and their inconsistent results continue this season, currently sitting eighth with 29 points from 22 games, having won eight, drawn five, and lost a disappointing nine fixtures.
