Venue: Mbombela Stadium

Mpumalanga Black Aces clinched the Mbombela Cup title after beating Platinum Stars 4-1 on penalties in the final, after it ended 2-2 after regulation time.

The rain poured down at the Mbombela Stadium in the opening stages, but the teams continued to search for an opener, as Aces' Esau Mtsweni blasted over in the 17th minute.

Shu-Aib Walters came to Aces' rescue in the 27th minute, as he denied Eleazar Rodgers in an one-on-one situation.

Muhsin Ertugral's side were awarded a penalty a few moments later when Tukane was brought down, however, Moseamedi managed to put his spot-kick wide of the mark.

Aces could have taken the lead on the stroke of halftime, but Mtsweni headed over from close range.

Neither side could break the deadlock, as they headed into the break with the score level at the Mbombela Stadium.

Dikwena broke the deadlock shortly after the halftime break, courtesy of a strike from new signing Bonginkosi Ntuli.

Aces managed to pull themselves level in the 60th minute courtesy of chipped finish from Given Mashikinya.

However, Stars restored their lead in the 62nd minute when Aces defender Ashraf Hendricks deflected Nyanda's free-kick into the back of his own net.

Substitute Ndumiso Mabena nearly made the desired impact after the 70-minute mark, as the former Orlando Pirates rattled the upright from close range.

Aces managed to draw level in stoppage time courtesy of a strike from Judas Moseamedi to send the game into a penalty shoot-out.

And it was the home side who held their nerve in the shoot-out, to clinch the inaugural Mbombela Spectacular.

Here's how they lined up:

Mpumalanga Black Aces: Walters, Mashikinya, Mwesiga, Modiba, Ngubane, Moseamedi, Nodada, Mtsweni, Tukane, Hendricks, Masina S

Platinum Stars: Mzimela, Semenya, Tshikovhi, Nhlapo, Tshabalala, Baloyi, khumalo, Kodisang, Hadebe, Segolela, and Rodgers
