Mandela Day

Mandela Day

Soccer Laduma understands the power of soccer in this country and the world over, which is why when the 'Plant A Ball' campaign met with us to discuss their Nelson Mandela Day Initiative we didn't hesitate to partner with them on it and become the media platform to tell the story behind this incredible campaign.

The Plant A Ball campaign focuses on planting footballs around South Africa with the primary goal of using sport to sew seeds for change. This is the 5th consecutive year that the campaign has been run.

Watch The Plant A Ball Campaign In Action

The initiative is centred around Mandela's belief that sport is a catalyst for change. This year, the Plant A Ball Team have sought out 45 NPO projects and charities from Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg as beneficiaries. These beneficiaries are all using sport to uplift, inspire and educate within their communities, as well as deter youth from the negative influences that may be present within their environment.

We understand a football won't solve South Africa's biggest problems, but we believe it can spark the person that does.

Sponsor behind this campaign include Totalsports who share Madiba's sentiment and ethos and echo this in their own tag line 'sport changes lives'. Distribution partners Picup and FIVES Futbol, have pledged over 2000 footballs in the last 4 years to beneficiaries around South Africa and continue to support the initiative in 2019.
