Jerome Karelse from U-17 Solar Cup tournament named in Amajimbos preliminary COSAFA Championship squad

Head coach of the South African U17 Men's National Team Amajimbos, Molefi Ntseki, recently named his 32-man provisional squad for the 2018 COSAFA U-17 Championship. 

Among the players named is a player from the recent Northern Cape U-17 Solar Youth Cup.

Jerome Karelse finished as the tournament's top goalscorer and Player of the tournament and now has been included in Nteski's preliminary squad for the 2018 COSAFA Cup.

"We are proud that Karelse has been included in the national U-17 provisional squad of 32 players by Coach Molefi Ntseki to be in camp for the championships," said event organiser of the Solar Cup, Willie Motlogelwa. 

SAFA's Head of Communications Dominic Chimhavi informed the Siya crew that SAFA's partnerships with stakeholders from all sectors play an integral role in sourcing football talent for the junior national teams. 

"We expected many more players from the tournament to make it into the big leagues," said Chimhavi to the crew. 

The Solar Youth Cup is sponsored by REISA, Kathu Solar, Lesedi Power Project, NC Dept of Sports, Arts and Culture, Sishen Solar Facility, LaLiga, EDS, Loago Sports SA in association with the South African Football Association.

The 2018 COSAFA U17 Championship is scheduled to be played in Mauritius from 19th to the 29th July 2018. Coach Ntseki who attended the Solar Youth Cup will further trim the squad to 20 players who will jet off to the Indian Ocean Island on the 15th of July 2018.

Amajimbos will open their account with a clash against Lesotho on Friday, 20 July at 13h30. This will be followed by a fixture against Mozambique two days later (Sunday, 22 July) at 10h00 – and both matches will be played at Auguste Vollaire Stadium in Flacq. 

For the final group stages, the South Africans will travel to the capital Port Louis to play Zambia on Tuesday, 24 July at St Francois Xavier Stadium at 13h00.
