In This Week’s Edition Of Soccer Laduma

In anticipation of this week’s 1434th edition of Soccer Laduma, we preview some of the features and interviews included. The latest edition will be available at your nearest outlet on Thursday, 24th July 2025.

FLAVIO SILVA

The life of a foreign striker at Kaizer Chiefs is not always easy. The pressure to deliver is a bit higher than it is for everyone else, especially over the last few seasons where success has not been a norm at Naturena. The latest to join Amakhosi is Flavio Silva, who was part of the team’s pre-season tour in the Netherlands. Silva, a Guinea-Bissau-born striker, is a player Amakhosi scouted after playing his football in Indonesia, but pressure in the Betway Premiership will be high for him to deliver. Ahead of the new season, Soccer Laduma asks if Silva can solve Chiefs’ scoring problems or if he will join a long list of foreign strikers who were just not able to make the cut at Naturena.

SHANDRE CAMPBELL

For the second instalment of the Diski Dads series, we hit the road and drove out to Boksburg to sit down with Reshan Campbell, father of Club Brugge and former SuperSport United sensation, Shandre Campbell. It’s a conversation filled with raw emotion, sacrifice, and the unwavering support of a father who saw his son’s potential from the moment he kicked a bottle in the backyard. Shandre’s rise has been meteoric, but behind that journey is a family rooted in faith, discipline and relentless hard work. In this interview with Soccer Laduma Reshan unpacks the Campbell family’s story of humble beginnings, unwavering belief, and a future that stretches far beyond Europe.

SIYA SPECIAL

Mamelodi Sundowns have been quieter than usual in the current transfer window, but our sources have indicated that the silence could be the calm before a significant international move. With the 2025/26 season fast approaching, the reigning Betway Premiership champions could still pull off one or two marquee signings, particularly from South America. As other Betway Premiership clubs shuffle their squads and wrap up their deals, the Brazilians have been meticulous and reserved – at least in public. But behind the scenes, activity has been intensifying. Siya sources understand that Sundowns’ technical team has been working diligently to identify players who closely match the tactical philosophy of head coach Miguel Cardoso, who is preparing for his first full season in charge after taking over midway through the previous campaign in December.

Wayde Jooste

After two seasons at AmaZulu FC, Wayde Jooste’s contract was not renewed, and he was on a long list of players who were released by the KZN outfit in June. For many who watched Usuthu last season, his departure may have come as a shock. The 33-year-old was one of the technical team’s most trusted soldiers, playing 22 matches in all competitions. It was, however, not enough to earn him a new contract and he is now available as a free agent. In this interview with Soccer Laduma the former Orlando Pirates wing-back talks about his surprise departure from Usuthu and takes us through how he was told via email that his contract would not be renewed.

International Feature

Chelsea enjoyed a strong 2024/25 campaign under Enzo Maresca in what was the Italian’s first season in charge at Stamford Bridge. A top-four finish and a return to the UEFA Champions League were complemented by silverware in both the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup. So, what’s next for the Blues? Building on their recent Club World Cup success, there is hope that Maresca can continue this run and bring more trophies back to the London giants. With new signings arriving to complement an established young core, there is cautious optimism for the future at Chelsea. Soccer Laduma looks ahead to Chelsea’s 2025/26 season, with expert views from football journalist and lifelong Chelsea fan, Nick Feinberg.

Revolving Column

This week we hear from former Orlando Pirates striker Thulasizwe Mbuyane on Lehlohonolo Seema’s appointment as Siwelele FC coach.

Siyagobhoza

In this week’s edition of the popular Siyagobhoza section, Lucas Ribeiro Costa’s Sundowns departure is possible, Ramahlwe Mphahlele resurfaces at Siwelele FC and Neo Maema might stay at Sundowns.
