Heartfelt Plea For South African From James Mothibi

Heartfelt Plea For South African From James Mothibi

A plea has been made to the powers that be to double their efforts in improving the standard of football in South Africa at development level.

In line with his plan to help aspiring young footballers to realise their dreams of playing the game at the highest level, James Mothibi has appealed to the authorities and other ex-professionals to also play their part.

"To all the ex-professional players, let's respect our development. We might not go into politics but we can challenge the politicians. Most of the politicians do not support development in sports," Mothibi said, speaking to the Siya crew.

"It's very painful if for instance I go to the Eastern Cape and watch a game of football and see that the referee is not doing justice to one of the teams. That's why many ex-professional footballers leave the game altogether without giving back. They don't want to see such things. I am appealing to our leadership of SAFA to say, let's fix our development structures. We have it in writing but on implementation we are not up to scratch. We have to be honest and I am not being political. Let the political issues not affect the development of football in the country. Let the business people come into football," the ex-striker added.
