Time Running Out For Chiefs Defender?

Time Running Out For Chiefs Defender?

As the January transfer window draws to a close, Kaizer Chiefs are believed to be hoping to loan out one of their defenders, the Siya crew has been informed.

The Amakhosi player that could be loaned out is Happy Mashiane, as Chiefs intended to reshape their squad with new signings this month.

As previously reported by Soccer Laduma, Amakhosi had been looking to loan the left-back to provide him with more playing time. However, insiders now indicate that if a loan is not possible this January then there could be an alternate solution.

Reliable sources close to the club stated that although there was a strong desire to loan Mashiane out, time is running out to finalise a move this season.

"Yes, as of this point in time we can say the team is running out of time to loan him out. Just from the start of the season they have been looking at the possibilities and clubs where they could loan him out but things didn't work out. And now that the January transfer window is coming to a close, the club is desperate to cut the squad down and loan out players including Mashiane. They feel like they are running out of time to loan him out," the Siya source stated.

A second insider stated that the club is also believed to be considering selling him outright if an interested Betway Premiership club surfaces.

"It's not all about a loan. It's even about selling him. You know Chiefs signed Bradley Cross and Bongani Sam because they were already planning a squad without Happy (Mashiane). So, selling him could as well be another option but it will all depend on interested teams, mainly in the Betway Premiership. That's the other option if he can't go out on loan, " the second source stated.

Mashiane was promoted from Chiefs' development in 2018 at 21 years of age. His best season was in 2020/21 when he had played a good amount of games. This season, the 27-year-old has featured in only a few matches so far, with Cross and Thatayaone Ditlhokwe covering the left-back position.

Soccer Laduma reached out to Chiefs for comment but received no response at the time of publication.
