However, the South African Police Service (SAPS) have since revealed otherwise, saying that their officials had to track the skilful player down on their own, alleging that he was on the run from them.
Lebese is accused of assault and malicious damage to property, following an incident that allegedly happened at the weekend.
The Mamelodi-born player appeared at the Pretoria Magistrates Court earlier today (Wednesday).
Lieutenant Kay Makhubela confirmed to the Siya crew that the accused was in court today and that he was released on R1000 bail.
Makhubela revealed that the scorer of Chiefs' two goals in their 2-1 win over AmaZulu in November, is expected back in court on March 09.
In the meantime, Lebese's teammates and the entire Chiefs' squad are in the Free State in preparation of their important league game against Bloemfontein Celtic tonight.
