DStv Premiership Report: Golden Arrows v Cape Town City 20 March 2021

Result: Golden Arrows 1-1 Cape Town City

Date: 20 March 2021

Venue: Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium

Golden Arrows reclaimed second spot in the DStv Premiership after playing to a 1-1 draw by Cape Town City on Saturday afternoon.

Arrows recalled Velemseni Ndwandwe and Pule Mmodi while the Citizens handed Nigerian midfielder Abdul Ajagun his first start alongside the return of Thamsanqa Mkhize, Fagrie Lakay and Ioannis Potouridis.

City got off to the perfect start after Ajagun fired them ahead in the fourth minute with a strike into a gaping net after goalkeeper Sifiso Mlungwana could only parry Craig Martin's shot into the midfielder's path.

The hosts reacted quickly, as Ndwandwe found the equaliser in the 13th minute with a close-range strike into an open net from a rebound after a clearance ricocheted off Gladwin Shitolo and hit the bottom post.

Aubrey Ngoma should have restored the lead for Jan Olde Riekerink's charges on the half-hour mark after a mistake at the back saw him go clear on goa, but his volley sailed over the crossbar.

The chances continued to fall for the visitors, as Terrence Mashego fired over from close range after the Arrows defence failed to clear their lines.

With the game still opening up in the early exchanges of the second stanza, Mmodi had a glorious chance after getting on the end of Divine Lunga's cross which he failed to divert on target.

City came close to going ahead in the 68th minute after Mashego's header from a corner was headed off the line by Lunga, with Mlungwana out of his goal.

Lakay was unlucky not to snatch the winner for Jan Olde Riekerink's troops in the last seven minutes with a looping strike from the edge of the box that came off the crossbar as both sides walked away with a point each.
