The South African tactician is no longer the coach of the Red Castle. After suffering six consecutive draws in the Botola Pro Inwi — with an elimination at the hands of Moghreb Tetouan in the Moroccan Throne Cup sandwiched in between those stalemates — the Johannesburg native was placed on special leave for the final three matchdays of the league campaign.
Following their cup elimination, it was alleged that the former Mamelodi Sundowns head coach had not been paid for the entire season, seemingly causing a breakdown in the relationship between the 38-year-old and the North African champions. Shortly after that news emerged, his representative, Steve Kapeluschnik, confirmed that Mokwena would be leaving Wydad at the end of the season.
It was reported in the media that the 2023/24 African Football League-winning coach would forfeit the remainder of the money left on his contract when the season officially ended. However, it now seems that he and the three-time African champions are at loggerheads regarding this supposed agreement.
The Wydad chiefs are understood to have questioned club president Hicham Ait Menna on how the club plans to resolve this alleged dispute, but the Moroccan chief claims any disagreement involving Mokwena would not be the club’s responsibility to bear.
“The matter has been settled, and if Mokwena backs down from the amicable termination agreement, I will be the one to bear the responsibility and pay his dues from my own money, not Wydad’s money,” Ait Menna said, as per Le Site Info.

The same report claims that the only money Mokwena and his technical team are currently owed is their respective salaries from the past three months.
