But it has now been confirmed by AmaZulu, under their new ambitious owner, Sandile Zungu, that the former Bidvest Wits and Al Ahly forward will join their new-look squad, assembled as soon as the businessman took over.
Joining 'Phaka' at the KZN outfit is goalkeeper Veli Mothwa, who left Chippa United abruptly on Saturday to sign a new deal with Usuthu.
The now former Chilli Boys captain will offer stiff competition to Siyabonga Mbatha, who has been criticised lately for making elementary and costly mistakes, despite his experience and leadership qualities as the club's skipper.
