Kaizer Chiefs' development side were this weekend crowned the Discovery Walter Sisulu Challenge champions at the Nike Centre in Pimville.
The annual tournament offers R70,000 in prize money for the winner, as well as bragging rights for the next 12 months.
Donald Khuse coached the Amakhosi youth as they went on to beat reigning champions, Soweto Stars, 1-0 in the final, via an own goal resulting from a deflected Zitha Macheke header.
Hendrick Ekstein, who was recently displayed to the general public during the Macufe Cup, won Player of the Tournament, going on to tell Chiefs' official website, "I am happy with my performance. I am working hard to get to the first team one day. We played like a team and that's good for the club going forward."
Meanwhile, his coach said, "I am happy with the results. We wanted the youngsters to play under pressure. We knew this was a knockout and played in front of a fully packed Nike Centre. This was a good experience for the team and shows progress in the development plans of the club."
