Carlos Queiroz Is Wanted Man

Reported target for the Bafana Bafana job, Carlos Queiroz, has been quoted in the Portuguese media as saying he wants to lead an African team to the next World Cup in Russia in 2018. The experienced mentor, who has just finished his stint in charge with Iran at the current tournament in Brazil, has revealed he wants to qualify for his fourth World Cup while in charge of another African side. Word reaching the Siya crew is that Gabon have been alerted to the 61-year-old's availability, and have reportedly tabled a lucrative offer to try and snap up the Nampula-born coach. The Portuguese was said to be earning R22.1 million a year while in charge of Iran. If his offer from Gabon is at a similar figure as his Iran earnings, it could mean that SAFA will have to break the bank if they want to lure him to Bafana instead. Previous national team coach, Gordon Igesund, was reportedly earning in the region of R5.4 million a year. Another target linked with Bafana is Nigeria's Stephen Keshi, who is reported to be on a salary package of R4.1 million per annum as head of the Super Eagles. Soccer Laduma understands that Queiroz is SAFA President Danny Jordaan's leading candidate. This indicates that an offer to lure Queiroz could cost South Africa's FA a fair sum of money and could see Keshi considered ahead of the Portuguese coach. The crew will monitor developments for the fight over Queiroz.
