Cape Town City announce new technical team addition

Cape Town City announce new technical team addition

Cape Town City have announced a change to their technical team, revealing a familiar face to take over the bench.

As previously reported by the Siya crew, sources indicated that Eric Tinkler was set to make his return to the Cape Town club to take charge for the last two games of the season.

The club has since announced his homecoming on their social media channels, and revealed he's signed a four-year contract.

City confirmed on Twitter last week that it was parting ways with coach Jan Olde Riekerink , this coming after the Dutchman was placed on "administrative leave" earlier this month.

Tinkler's return now sets him up for a second spell at the Mother City club having intially been the head coach when chairman John Comitis bought the Mpumalanga Black Aces franchise in 2016.

It was a fairly successful stint as the former Bafana Bafana 1996 Africa Cup of Nations winner clinched the Telkom Knockout cup a few months later and guided the Citizens to an impressive third place finish in the league - just five points behind the champions Bidvest Wits.

Tinkler then left to join SuperSport United, spending a year there before being briefly in charge of Chippa United and then Maritzburg United, who parted ways with the coach earlier on this season to install Ernst Middendorp as his replacement.

"This has always been one of my favourite stadiums. I was part of the beginnings of the club in its first season and it ended up being a fantastic season. That will always stay in my memory for a very long time," Tinkler said in short video message.

"Now, obviously, the task has to be greater."
