Rivaldo Coetzee is one of the hottest players leading up to the July/August transfer window, with a possible exit from Ajax Cape Town seeming ever more likely.
It is no secret that Mamelodi Sundowns are keen on adding the Bafana Bafana international to their roster, though the defending CAF Champions League winners could lose out on the player.
The Siya crew reported last week that negotiations between Sundowns and Ajax are well underway and according to a source in the know, a R6 million transfer fee has been discussed.
However, it appears that Sundowns are facing tough competition in trying to land the signature of the 20-year-old, as the Urban Warriors’ chairman, Ari Efstathiou, is currently in Europe where he is involved in talks about a potential move abroad for the player.
“I am specifically in Europe for Rivaldo and we are making progress,” Efstathiou told the Siya crew.
The Ajax chairman did not disclose any details of the interested European clubs with whom he is engaging regarding the future of Coetzee. However, indications are that Efstathiou looks to make a decision that will benefit both the player’s professional football career and the club.
Coetzee’s contract with Ajax is set to expire at the end of June, this year, but the Cape Town-based club has an added two-year option set on his current deal.
It is understood that Ajax is likely to exercise the two-year option on his contract, which will see the club cash in on the transfer of the player to Europe or to Sundowns.
However, before any transfer can be finalised, the buying club, the selling club and the player’s camp will all have to mutually agree on the terms and conditions of the deal.
Once an agreement is reached, only then will the buying club be free to discuss personal terms with the Ajax centre-back.
