'Nobody Plays To Build For The Next Season, Pirates Deserve To Win The League'

'Nobody Plays To Build For The Next Season, Pirates Deserve To Win The League'

Orlando Pirates came from a goal down to defeat AmaZulu 2-1 in their Absa Premiership fixture on Sunday afternoon.

The Buccaneers have once again managed to keep the gap between themselves and log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns to just three points, following the Brazilians' victory over Bidvest Wits on Saturday evening.

Supporters Club's Lerato Mkhondo caught up with Bucs faithful Thulani, who expressed his contentment with the Soweto giants' performance and improvements within the club over the past few months.

Lerato: Ola Buccaneer, hope you've been well. Your win on Sunday against AmaZulu saw your team maintain the pressure on Masandawana yet again. How do you feel about the constant "catching up" you have been faced with recently?

Thulani: It's so good to hear from you! It's been a while since we last spoke. If I recall correctly, I think I was complaining about the instability at Pirates back then. Since then, things have improved and I am happy. With regards to our performance as a team, I am also pleased. Who knew that we would one day see Thabo Matlaba being benched for several games? It's a sign of improvement and I am happy.

As for playing catch-up, eish, it's a quite a mission, hey. Honestly speaking, though, we still have a great chance of winning the title, should we win all our three remaining games. There's still nine points to play for and I think it's doable. Sundowns are beatable. If they can draw just two of their remaining encounters then we are good.

However, I just dislike how these teams always go out of their way when playing against us (Pirates) but never against Sundowns. If you watched the Downs and Wits game, I don't remember for a second Onyango being tested in those goal posts. Also, I don't buy this "we are building" theory. Nobody plays to build for the next season, we've done and I think we deserve to win the league, but only if Downs can be imbalanced.

Do you agree with this supporter's views?
