Goodbye Schillo, And Thank You

Goodbye Schillo, And Thank You

Former Bafana Bafana captain Steven "Schillo" Pienaar announced his retirement from football on Wednesday evening, after 18 years of serving the beautiful game.

Supporters Club members left Schillo farewell messages, with some reminiscing about some of the most memorable moments of his career.

"Well done, Schillo, for an excellent career in football. Your dedication and commitment to soccer was evident for all to see. It is a pity that in South Africa we will always criticise instead of acknowledge. If you were in another country, people would have appreciated your contributions to soccer. You played in three of the biggest leagues in the world and played at the highest standard more than some people will ever know. Do not listen to people who have never even been to the stadium and watch you play during your career. Well done, buddy, and we are proud of you." – Pyton

"Goodbye Steve. Thank you for all the shibobos, through passes and assists. I will never forget such a special talent that God blessed us with in this country, to see you every weekend causing havoc on that left side with Baines was special, it was even more special to hear the commentators referring to you as 'The South African'. How can we forget the day that you ran to the advertising board and fixed how the South African flag had been put, great moments. You might have not made many people happy when you unexpectedly retired from the national team but some of us understood that decision because you had given it your all. I am happy to have seen you play, my man, and proud of you for what you did in South African football, looking forward to your next journey. GOODBYE MY MAN, TILL WE SEE YOU IN SOUTH AFRICAN FOOTBALL AGAIN. SCHILLO, SCHILLO, SCHILLO." – LAPO_MOLEBATSI

"I remember meeting him in Liverpool some few years ago, we had a nice chat about football and his great form then at Everton. All the best, man, for your future endeavours." – Sir A one
