The Premier Soccer League Disciplinary Committee has handed down its verdict on Orlando Pirates following the now-infamous crowd violence that occurred last season, when the Buccaneers took on Mamelodi Sundowns at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.
Bucs supporters who were unhappy on the day following the 6-0 scoreline against Downs resorted to violence, with some storming on to the field in attempts to vent their anger. The PSL DC has now ordered the Soweto giants to play one of their remaining league games behind closed doors.
Supporters Club's Lerato Mkhondo caught up with Bucs fan Siyanda, who expressed his views following the verdict.
Lerato: Siya, the PSL has made a decision, and supporters will be denied the opportunity to watch one od Bucs' games. How do you feel about this?
Siyanda: I applaud the PSL for their decision. It is actually a good lesson for the supporters not to repeat the same mistake again. There are better ways to handle frustrations, and violence is most certainly not one of them. This will teach them to behave. One thing supporters need to understand is that most stadiums are not owned by the clubs.
Another thing: when supporters tend to behave like that, it paints a bad image for our league. I mean, the PSL is the most watched league in Africa. So imagine what impact that will have on other nations when we behave like that.
It's not only about that, such behaviour puts other people's lives at risk. If supporters are unhappy about whatever issues regarding their teams, they must organise meetings with clubs' management and seek ways to resolve the issues. So, yes, it's a good decision by the PSL, supporters will learn to behave.
