Praises have been sung for South African referee Victor Gomes following his decision to refuse bribery while officiating a CAF game last weekend.
It is understood that Gomes was set to officiate a game between Plateau United of Nigeria and USM Alger when he had been approached to fix the match. It appears the Mzansi referee's ethicality was firm, and he instead opted to report the matter to CAF officials, who are currently investigating the issue.
Supporters Club members have lauded the brave referee ever since:
"God job Gomes, keep it up!" – Fakugezi
"Proud of Victor Gomes. SADC is really proud of Mzansi." – Maredo

"Give credit where it is due. Thank you so much Gomes and his company, you did a good job. Maybe FIFA will start looking at our ref officials for World Cup games." – rifah
