The Premier Soccer League Disciplinary Committee has handed down its sanction against Kaizer Chiefs following the crowd violence which occurred at FNB Stadium, after the Soweto giants lost 3-0 to Chippa United earlier this month.
Amakhosi were handed a fine of R250 000, of which R200 000 has been suspended for 24 months on condition they are not found guilty of a similar offence during that period.
Supporters Club's Lerato Mkhondo caught up with Chiefs fan Mama Fefe, who expressed her views following the punishment handed down to her favourite club.
Lerato: Mama Fefe, the PSL has made its call, and the club has been punished. What are your thoughts about the fine?
Mama Fefe: Honestly, I am not happy at all. First of all, they took time to punish Orlando Pirates for a similar thing which happened over a year ago. Now, as a cover-up to punish our team, they dealt with the Pirates' case first so it would be easy to fine Chiefs.
Also, I'm not sure if you have seen it but there is a video that has been circulating around showing a Pirates supporter throwing objects on that day at FNB Stadium. The PSL was too quick to fine us without checking facts such as those. It's an unfair punishment by the PSL. Chiefs' supporters are not hooligans! We don't vandalise stadiums.
It's also a question of security. How did those bottles manage to get inside the stadium? We are no longer safe at stadiums. I mean, there was not enough security at FNB stadium. The situation could have been controlled had there been enough security. There weren't as many fans there on that day.
We are playing in Durban this weekend and we hope not to witness such again, no matter what the outcome against Free State Stars in the Nedbank semi-final. Some of us really love football and such things tend to be discouraging at times. We don't want such in our stadiums anymore.
What are your thoughts on the PSL's verdict against Amakhosi?
