With genuine interest from Belgian topflight club Westerlo, SuperSport United winger Thapelo Maseko has opened up about how he feels about the situation, as club CEO Stan Matthews recently confirmed that they turned down offers from the European club.

Nominated for the DStv Premiership young player of the season, Maseko stood out as a top performer under the tutelage of Gavin Hunt, tormenting opposition defenders with his speed and trickery on the left flank.

Discussing his offer from Belgium with the Siya crew on Monday night, after winning the Young Player of the Season at the SuperSport awards, Maseko revealed that he's carried the dream of playing overseas for many years.

"It shows that I am working very hard and I am performing at my level best so far. It really says a lot to me because someone out there sees my potential, especially overseas," he said.

"The dream has always been Europe, to play overseas. Since the CEO signed me, he told me 'you are going overseas'. So, the dream has always been overseas."

As things stand, the 20-year-old Maseko might have to wait a little longer for his European move to happen, after his club turned down two offers from Westerlo, a club Bafana Bafana striker Lyle Foster played for before moving to Burnley during the January transfer window.

"I am in the hands of my team because I am contracted here. They have the final say, but my dream is overseas. It's never too late or too early. If it must happen now, it can happen now. I have not spoken to Stan yet. I was fully focused on getting to the top three with the team, so I haven't spoken to him yet."

The national under-23 player featured 25 times in all competitions for SuperSport, contributing four goals and two assists. He is happy with his performances, but wants to take his game to an even higher level.

"I am very proud of myself. I've been working hard to improve myself daily, to be a better footballer. So all of this comes as a bonus and I hope I will carry on from here.

I know that I can improve and be much better. The coach has really helped me so far for South Africa to see a glimpse of my potential. I think I can do more and I will work to do more. If I stay, I can work on them here. If I go, I can work on them that side.
