Soweto Derby Starting XI: Chiefs v Pirates

Kaizer Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs will have a chance to make history in the Soweto derby fixture against arch-rivals Orlando Pirates when the sides clash on Saturday afternoon.

Soweto Derby

Teams: Kaizer Chiefs v Orlando Pirates

Date: 25 February 2023

Venue: FNB Stadium

Time: 15h30

Pirates are coming into the titanic fixture with a better form after winning four of their last five league games, with their only blemish being a narrow 1-0 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Buccaneers had an extra two days' rest compared to Chiefs as their last outing, a 2-1 win over Maritzburg United was on Friday, before last weekend.

The Sea Robbers, who will be without head coach Jose Riveiro on the bench due to suspension, are lying third on the log, five points behind second-placed SuperSport United and three points clear of fifth-placed Chiefs.

The Glamour Boys, in contrast, are on a bad run of form after suffering four defeats in their last six matches, the last of which was a 3-2 loss against Golden Arrows this past Sunday.

However, Amakhosi have won the last four league clashes between the sides and will be gunning to win their fifth consecutive game against Pirates for the first time in the history of this fixture.

Head coach Arthur Zwane could also become the first South African-born coach to complete a league double for Chiefs over Pirates in the PSL era after a stunning Yusuf Maart goal handed Amakhosi a 1-0 win in the reverse.

Here's how they line up:

Kaizer Chiefs: 1. Petersen, 30. Ngezana, 2. Dove, 4. Kwinika, 23. Hlanti, 6. Sithebe, 8. Maart, 42. Shabalala, 10. Dolly, 9. Du Preez, 21. Salie
