Pirates have had contrasting results already in three matches, as they lost against Stellenbosch, won against Royal AM and were held to a 1-1 draw by Chippa United the last time out, two weeks ago.

The Buccaneers have been involved in the CAF Champions League and booked their spot in the second preliminary round after drubbing Djabal Club d'Iconi 4-0 on aggregate.

However, Jose Riveiro's charges need to start climbing up the ladder in the league standings, as they are lying tenth with four points from three matches.

The Citizens, meanwhile, had a perfect start after winning back-to-back matches but are looking to get back to winning ways after losing two games on the bounce against SuperSport United and Sekhukhune United, both by a 1-0 scoreline.

The sides cancelled each other out in their meetings last season, as Eric Tinkler's charges came from a goal down to beat Pirates 2-1, with Juan Zapata and Darwin Gonzalez netting after Deon Hotto had given the Buccaneers the lead in the first round clash in Cape Town.

The Soweto giants turned the tables in the reverse, after winning by the same scoreline from behind courtesy of goals by Terrence Dzvukamanja and Monnapule Saleng, after Khanyisa Mayo gave City the lead.

Here's how they line up:
