After a shaky start to the season, Chiefs picked themselves up with two consecutive wins and clean-sheets in the league after thrashing AmaZulu 3-0 and beat Stellenbosch 2-0.

The Glamour Boys' last game before the FIFA break was a 1-1 draw against Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN8 semi-final first-leg. Amakhosi have climbed up to fifth spot on the standings with seven points from five games.

Royal AM, similarly, had a similar story, where they had a bad start but they recovered with two wins on the bounce after edging TS Galaxy 1-0 and Chippa United 3-2.

As a result, Thwihli Thwahla went up to ninth place on the log, although they have the same number of points as Chiefs and five other teams above them on the log.

After their struggles against Royal AM in the league over the last two years, Amakhosi finally beat them for the first time in the return fixture last season, a 2-0 win courtesy of goals from Sifiso Hlanti and Ashley Du Preez.

Thwihli Thwahla had won the first round clash 1-0 on home soil thanks to a goal scored in the first minute by Ricardo Nascimento.
