Carling Knockout

Teams: Kaizer Chiefs v AmaZulu

Date: 21 October 2023

Venue: FNB Stadium

Time: 18h00

Chiefs will be hoping to revive their season after they lost for the third time in four matches in all competitions following a narrow 1-0 defeat to Cape Town City prior to the FIFA break.

Amakhosi reached the semi-finals of this tournament the last time under previous sponsors Telkom in 2019 but they were knocked out by Maritzburg United, who won 2-1 thanks to a brace by Judas Moseamedi.

Meanwhile, after a slow start to the season under coach Pablo Franco Martin, Usuthu were starting to pick up form with two consecutive victories and a draw but went to the FIFA break on a losing note, after a 2-1 defeat to Moroka Swallows.

AmaZulu were embarrassed the last time in this tournament under Telkom in 2019, after they were hammered 5-0 by eventual winners Mamelodi Sundowns in the first round.

The KwaZulu-Natal outfit will be without Abbubaker Mobara due to suspension.

The sides have already met in the league this season after Chiefs thrashed Usuthu 3-0 thanks to a brace by Pule Mmodi and a third goal by Edson Castillo back in August at the same stadium.

Here's how they line up:

Kaizer Chiefs: Khune, Frosler, Dove, Ditlhokwe, Ngcob, Maart, Matlou, Mthethwa, Potsane, Dolly, Chivaviro

Subs: Bvuma, Msimango, Kwinika, Solomons, Castillo, Mdantsane, Mmodi, Saile, Gonzalez

AmaZulu: Mothwa, Sikhakhane, Hanamub, Fielies, Mphahlele, Gumede, Motshwari, Brooks, Esktein, Ngema, Moremi
