Orlando Pirates will be chasing a spot in the CAF Champions League group stages when they host Jwaneng Galaxy in the second preliminary round, second-leg clash on Friday evening at Orlando Stadium.

CAF Champions League

Teams: Orlando Pirates v Jwaneng Galaxy

Date: 29 September 2023

Venue: Orlando Stadium

Time: 19h30

Pirates are trailing Galaxy after losing the first-leg 1-0 two weeks ago in Gaborone after a first-half goal by Daniel Msendami and need to get on the score-sheet to stand any chance of progressing to the group stages.

The Buccaneers have played two games since that defeat, as they lost to Mamelodi Sundowns in the DStv Premiership and Stellenbosch in the MTN8 semi-final second-leg both by the same scoreline, although against Stellies they went through to the final on away goals after the sides were tied 2-2 on aggregate.

The Soweto giants will be hoping history does not repeat itself after they were knocked out of this tournament in the preliminary round in the 2019/20 season by Zambian side Green Eagles.

Pirates last qualified for the CAF Champions League group stages in the 2018-19 season.

As for Dinaledi, they need to avoid defeat to make it to the group stages. Morena Ramoreboli's side were last in the group phase of the CAF Champions League in the 2021/22 campaign.

Galaxy have not had any domestic action since winning the Botswana Premier League title in June, as the 2023/24 season has been delayed to start only next month.

Here's how they line up:

Orlando Pirates: Chaine, Mako, Monyane, Sibisi, Xoki, Ndlondlo, Monare, Maswanganyi, Hotto, Lepasa, Erasmus

Subs: Ofori, Ndah, Mofokeng, Shandu, Kimvuidi, Kapinga, Makgopa, Saleng, Timm
