Sundowns Announce Starting XI To Face Swallows

Mamelodi Sundowns will open their CAF Champions League campaign when they host Mbabane Swallows in the second preliminary round, first-leg encounter on Saturday evening at Lucas Moripe Stadium.

CAF Champions League

Teams: Mbabane Swallows v Mamelodi Sundowns

Date: 14 September 2024

Venue: Lucas Moripe Stadium

Time: 20h00

Sundowns had a bye in the first round of the tournament, as one of the teams with higher coefficient ranking points.

The Brazilians had a slow start to their season overall after they needed extra-time and an own goal to edge Polokwane City 1-0 in the MTN8 quarter-finals and lost two semi-finals legs both by a 1-0 score-line to Stellenbosch, as they crashed out of the tournament.

The Tshwane giants reached the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League but they were knocked out by Esperance de Tunis, who won 2-0 on aggregate after edging Masandawana 1-0 in both legs.

Swallows, on the other hand, reached the second round after edging Mozambican outfit Ferroviario Beira 1-0 on aggregate in the first round.

Umkhonto Kashaka won the first leg 1-0 on home soil and played to a goalless draw in the return leg in Mozambique.

Swallows qualified for the CAF Champions League for the first time since 2018 after they were crowned champions of the Eswatini Premier League last season.
