Mamelodi Sundowns will start the defence of their Betway Premiership title when they host SuperSport United in the Tshwane derby on Tuesday evening.
Betway Premiership
Teams: Mamelodi Sundowns v SuperSport United
Date: 17 September 2024
Venue: Loftus Versfeld Stadium
Time: 19h30
Sundowns had a disappointing start to their season after an unconvincing 1-0 win over Polokwane City in extra-time in the MTN8 quarter-finals, was followed by back-to-back 1-0 losses against Stellenbosch in the semi-finals.
The Brazilians, however, boosted their confidence with a 4-0 thrashing of Eswatini outfit Mbabane Swallows on Saturday, in the CAF Champions League second preliminary round, first-leg thanks to a brace by Lucas Ribeiro Costa and goals by Mosa Lebusa and Iqraam Rayners.
SuperSport, on the other hand, started their campaign on a bad footing after a 3-1 loss to Orlando Pirates in the MTN8 quarter-finals.
Matsatsantsa will be looking to improve on their seventh place finish last term and a good start would be important.
United will be without Gavin Hunt, who is suspended, as a carry over from last campaign.
Sundowns had the upper hand over two league meetings last season, after winning the first encounter 2-0 and were held to a 1-1 draw in the reverse.
Here's how they line up:
