Teboho Moloi Offers Soweto Derby Advice For Players

Orlando Pirates assistant coach, Teboho Moloi, has expressed his disappointment at how the modern day footballers fail to showcase their talents in a high profile game like the Soweto Derby.

For some time in recent years, there has been an outcry from fans in the local football fraternity, about how the Soweto Derby between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs has lost its spark.

Although the first round game for Chiefs and Pirates this season was somewhat of a humdinger, as the two sides entertained the crowd with the four goals scored at the FNB Stadium on October 31, for the past few seasons the previous games have been labelled as boring.

While both Eric Tinkler and Steve Komphela are under immense pressure to deliver good results for their teams, football fans will be expecting to see entertaining football displayed by the Soweto giants on Saturday.

Speaking to the Siya crew ahead of this weekend's Soweto Derby, Moloi has encouraged players to approach the game with the mentality of wanting to own it.

"The players don't seem to want to own the Soweto Derby. Back in the day, we had players like Jerry Sikhosana, Teboho Moloi and Doctor Khumalo. The guys wanted to own the Soweto Derby at all costs by wanting to outshine everyone on the field. The players would make sure that the game is more about them more than everyone else.

"Most of the time these days, players become nervous about the derby, especially the new guys in the team. But in my opinion, the derby is the easiest game, because all you do is to go out there and enjoy your game," said Moloi.
