Siphiwe Tshabalala Diverts Attention From Personal Milestone In Soweto Derby

Siphiwe Tshabalala Diverts Attention From Personal Milestone In Soweto Derby

Kaizer Chiefs captain, Siphiwe Tshabalala, has expressed his delight at playing in his 26th Soweto Derby as captain of Amakhosi.

Chiefs Set To Reward Gordinho With New Deal?

The 31-year-old has admitted that his personal milestone is a great honour, but that taking all three points from the game that they lost in the reverse fixture is more important.

"You know a derby is always a big fixture and for me to have played in 26 of those  derbies since joining Chiefs is a great honour but today it's not about me, but about the team and the three points," he told the Siya crew.

"We lost the first round and we can't afford that again. We want to win today and to do that we need to focus on the game as a team.

Chiefs suffered a loss at the hands of Platinum Stars last weekend, but their opponents today were also on the wrong end of the score line in their 1-0 defeat to Jomo Cosmos.

The man known affectionately as "Shabba" believes that the losses will add an extra dimension to the game and the motivation to win will play a big role in what happens on the pitch.

"We are from a bad result just like them and that will make today's game more interesting. Both teams want to redeem themselves and it's good going into such a game in that mood," the Soweto-born midfielder concluded.

Shabba: It's A Worrying Factor

Tshabalala made his first appearance in a Soweto Derby way back on 24 November 2007, where the match ended 1-1.
