The official announcement took place during UFC 251, and it was explained that the players will fight their way to the top, from an unknown amateur fighter to a UFC superstar in the new career mode.

As described by the developers, you will experience "the origins of combat sport in two all-new environments", while they also revealed that there will be new Blitz Battles as well as Online World Championships.

The new environments mentioned are Backyard fights and Kumite. The idea behind it is to showcase the background of where some of the top fighters first made their names, while Kumite is a nod to the old lore of MMA on a whole, where fighting disciplines stood out.

EA SPORTS will look to continue creating for authentic fights in the game, and said that there is focus on creating fluid clinch-to-strike combinations, helping to create more responsive stand-up gameplay.
