What's the story?

The FIFA community has accused EA Sports of hypocrisy after their removal of Ivan Toney on FIFA 23 following the footballer's eight-month ban by the FA over betting offenses.

The Brentford striker admitted to 232 breaches of betting rules, which resulted in a lengthy ban from all football activity until 16 January 2024, and EA Sports responding by removing him in their latest FIFA 23 update.

Ivan Toney ban reaction

Ater the removal of Ivan Toney in the latest squad update, players immediately began hitting out at EA, slamming them as "hypocrites" and for removing the England international. 

As per Sky News Toney pleading guilty to 232 of 262 charges levelled at him by the English FA, who revealed the verdict of his case revealed on 17 May. 

The FA also said the ban was reduced from 11 months to eight due to his good record, "genuine remorse" and having been diagnosed with a gambling addiction, and was fined just over R1.2 million.

Toney himself reacted to the news by tweeting: "I'll speak soon with no filter". 

Following the news of the suspension, EA has taken the step to remove the Brentford star from FIFA 23, with gamers reacting angrily to the news.
