An eSports company and professional football team have merged as one in Spain and will now share the same badge.
A number of major football clubs around the world have dipped into the eSports arena, with the likes of Schalke, FC Barcelona and Arsenal taking over promising eSports organisations.
However, this incident in Spain sees a reversal of roles, with the eSports organisation taking over a professional football club and rebranding it after the merge.
Internacional de Madrid Boadilla were battling it out in the third division of LaLiga, which is known as Second Division B, and they will continue plying their trade next season. However, they will go by the name DUX Internacional de Madrid after their merge with DUX Gaming.
DUX Gaming is a fairly new eSports organisation which was created by famous Spanish YouTubers, including one of the top FIFA players in Gravesen01. DUX has also recruited talented Spanish players to participate in FIFA 20 and NBA 2K20 tournaments.
Interestingly, they were able to secure investment from two famous top tier players, in Real Madrid's Thibaut Courtois and Real Betis' Borja Iglesias.
The influx of money has allowed for the bond to football in real life and it will be interesting to see how things develop both on and off the pitch with this unique venture.
